the breed

The Tatra dog comes from the south of Poland, more specifically from the Podhalen region. This is the area between the Tatra high mountains and the Beskids low mountains. The official name is Polski Owczarek Podhalanski, which loosely translated means 'Polish shepherd from the Podhalen'. Originally, the Tatra moves through the area with the shepherd and the flock of sheep. He protects the flock from everything that is not right: bears, wolves, robbers, …… He observes and will alert the shepherd by his barking. Because of his white color, he is inconspicuous among the flock, but the shepherd always sees the difference between his dog and wolves or bears. Because of these characteristics, which he has retained from time immemorial, he is also a loyal four-legged friend to protect his environment. He will always be ready to protect his family and home. He is independent, courageous, balanced, very intelligent and reserved. He needs a consistent but not harsh education. They will always obey you faithfully, although he will not quickly carry out orders that he does not see the point of. This is his intelligence that he then shows. The Tatra dog likes to live outside in the garden or inside with his owner. If he lives in a small space, the owner must make enough time to take varied walks. As far as the care of the coat is concerned, it is quite simple. They have a self-cleaning coat. If they come home dirty from a long walk, you do not have to immediately start working with water and soap. After a few hours you will notice that the white coat has returned. For an adult dog, a combing once a week is sufficient. Although you should still provide a daily combing during the moulting period. During this period, the dog loses quite a lot of hair. Even though a dog is of a large size, its stomach is not. Its daily portion of food is rather limited.
